Imptek alerts to know when to waterproof your home
October 26, 2022- The total waterproofing of buildings brings energy savings, thermal comfort and prevention of future expenses.
Ecuador, October xxxx, 2022.- Building a house or building is one of the highest investments that a person makes during his life, and throughout the process it is necessary to think of several ways to save. Frequently, one analyzes in the present and chooses to reduce the cost of materials or reduce quantities; but there is also another very guaranteed way, which is to think about the future with preventive techniques. In other words, as the popular saying goes: "the best way to save is to avoid future expenses".
Following this guideline, Imptek - a leading company in waterproofing for construction and roadways, recommends opting for preventive measures during the construction of buildings to avoid future expenses or problems. This is achieved with preventive waterproofing.
The architect SebastiĂĄn Prado - Imptek technical manager, mentions that "about 5% of the total investment of a construction should always be allocated in an optimal and necessary waterproofing of the entire building. In this way, we avoid the damage that can be caused by rain or the constant accumulation of water on roofs, walls and floors; and thus avoid spending higher values in the future to correct them".
Proper waterproofing in buildings is an option that can also generate savings of up to 30%* in terms of energy consumption for air conditioning; where according to studies conducted by Imptek, 23% corresponds to thermal insulation and 7% to reflectivity savings.
For example, in cold weather and heavy rains, with good thermal insulation it is possible to maintain pleasant temperatures inside the house, preventing the heat generated inside the house from escaping and the outside temperature from entering the house; in addition to considerably reducing the use of heating systems and thus a high energy consumption.
And, on the other hand, in times of intense sunshine, with a good reflectivity system in the roof - capacity to reflect the sun's rays avoiding the transmission of heat to the interior of the rooms - it is possible to maintain cool spaces inside the house and without the need to use air conditioning in a place with a temperate climate such as Quito.
Therefore, preventive waterproofing is the best recommendation in terms of savings. The quality and durability of the products should be the major differentiator when protecting the buildings, ensuring an improvement in the thermal comfort of the building and seeking a decrease in the energy consumption bill.
