Pending home repairs? 5 keys to make smart use of the dry season
July 9, 2025Globally, housing construction and design has taken a major turn. The book Shaping Tomorrow: Future Design & Architecture 2025-2026 anticipates how housing will adapt to the future. Sustainability stands out as the number one priority for architects and interior designers consulted in this global report. More than 40% of experts agree that the homes of the future will be self-sufficient, with eco-friendly materials, energy efficiency and design that draws inspiration from nature. In addition, the use of materials such as concrete and brick is being abandoned in favor of lightweight construction materials such as cladding and insulation.
In this context, building a house from scratch represents an opportunity to have the home of your dreams in a personalized way and in line with new trends. For example, "lightweight construction offers insulation solutions designed to improve the quality of life by providing thermal and acoustic comfort. They optimize energy consumption and are also safe for health, because they have international certifications," explains Mauricio Beltran, new business developer at Imptek Saint-Gobain.
On the other hand, the dream of owning their own home continues to be a priority for thousands of families in Ecuador. According to the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing (MIDUVI), as of 2023, 56.71% of homes had some type of housing deficit, either because people do not have their own home or because they live in deteriorated spaces, built with precarious materials, without basic services or without decent conditions.
In this sense, for the construction of a house it is essential to consider, in addition to comfortable spaces, efficient and sustainable systems that respond to both climate and lifestyle.
In the case of Ecuador, many areas experience variable temperatures, with houses that are very cold in winter and hot in summer. Therefore, when planning the construction of a house, it is key to take these aspects into account:
- A good solar orientation to take advantage of natural light and heat.
- Efficient ventilation systems that promote air circulation.
- The use of "cool roofs", prioritizing materials such as white asphalt membranes, or white acrylics to provide heat reduction due to their reflective capacity.
- Acoustic insulation to reduce noise, especially in urban areas, and thermal insulation to concentrate heat in the cold season and protect from heat in summer.
- Waterproofing solutions that protect the structure from humidity.
- A functional design that balances comfort, efficiency and style.
Nowadays, thinking about a comfortable house adapted to the needs is not a luxury, it is an essential part of ensuring quality of life and well-being for those who live in it.
