Imptek participated in the Second Edition of the Sustainable Challenge Latam 2022
September 16, 2022- Imptek's carbon footprint is expected to be reduced by 333 tons of CO2 per year and 92% of the electricity generated will be for self-consumption.
- The installation of 1,000 solar panels on the roof of Imptek's industrial plant will have a useful life of 30 years.
- The annual reduction of the carbon footprint (333 tons of CO2 per year), equivalent to the planting of 5,500 trees in a 10-year period, 72 vehicles circulating and the energy consumed by 42 homes per year.
Imptek Chova del Ecuador , an Ecuadorian company with 43 years of experience in the development and commercialization of waterproofing and road solutions, announced the installation of 1000 solar panels at its industrial plant located in El Inga, with which it plans to generate photovoltaic energy to supply its internal energy demand and achieve 92% self-generation. 92% self-generation. As a second stage of this project, the company will be pioneer in installing an innovative roofing ecosystem that that will make it an icon of sustainability in the construction and road industry.
With a large investment and the installation of solar panels that will have more than 30 years of useful life; Imptek marks a new milestone in its business trajectory, with the generation of clean and renewable energy for its industrial process; contributing to the care of the planet.
Imptek's energy efficiency advances include the following:
- 2013: starts using high-efficiency motors and net-meters in the plant.
- 2015: Jacketed pipes and tanks for thermal savings and reduction in fuel use.
- 2019: changeover to LED technology in the plant, representing an 80% reduction in lighting consumption.
- 2022: Photovoltaic plant to produce 92% of self-generation.
"In Imptek we are convinced that environmental responsibility is key in the field of construction and roads. We are committed to innovation and technology in our products to generate environmentally friendly solutions and from the private sector contribute to the sustainability of everyone's home, our planet, " said Juan Pablo Sotomayor, Imptek's general manager.
The excellent location of the industrial plant allows the permanent reception of solar energy for its transformation and with the commissioning of the solar panels it is expected to generate 770,000 Kw-h annually and at the same time reduce 333 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2); figures that are equivalent to the planting of 5500 trees* that capture CO2 for 10 years, 72 vehicles* circulating and the energy consumed by 42 houses* per year.
The next step in this project is the implementation of an Imptek roof ecosystem in the plant's buildings, which brings together three areas of efficiency. The first is energy efficiency through the use of solar panels, the second is CO2 capture with gardens or vegetation on the roof and finally the collection/recovery of rainwater through canals. "If you analyze the annual performance per square meter of this project, the energy generation of the panels provides 154Kwh/m2**, a CO2 absorption of the landscaped roof with low vegetation for a total of 2kg CO2/m2** and rainwater reuse in 1500L/m2**, all figures per year," mentions Patricio Crespo operations manager and responsible for this project,
Other advantages of using renewable energy include: an efficient source for industrial processes, a significant reduction in the consumption of electricity and thermal energy for heating and hot water systems in factories. In addition, there is a reduction in the maintenance costs of solar systems.
Imptek, as part of its corporate philosophy and in synergy with new trends in environmental care, is committed to the implementation of a circular economy that not only benefits the industry, but also cares for the planet and the future of new generations.
