Our History
Imptek was founded in 1979 under the name of Chova del Ecuador S.A. From the beginning our mission was the protection of homes through the use of asphalt materials for waterproofing.
In 1982, Chova del Ecuador became the first and to this day the only company in Ecuador to manufacture asphalt membranes, asphalt shingles, bringing to the market the following products: Imperglass, Asfalum, Teja Shingle, as well as asphalt liquid coatings and roof accessories.
Between 1991 and 1994, we invested in the development of our portfolio for waterproofing solutions and complements. This allowed us to introduce to the market metallic accessories for rainwaters, gutters and downspouts and liquid coatings.
Since 1995 we expanded our offer to the road sector after acquiring our Asphalt Emulsions plant, which has allowed us to serve the road construction industry.
By obtaining ISO 9001 certification in 2000, Imptek maintains its status as a pioneer company in Ecuador by being recognized for its quality management and processes.
In 2002, our flagship product was born: Alumband.
In 2008 the Imptek brand was established, and our commitment to produce solutions that guarantee the well-being of our customers and the conservation of the environment remains firm.
In 2012, construction began on the new Ramiro Sotomayor industrial plant in the Pintag area of Quito.
As of 2015 our IMPTEK plant, has been the home of our operations, and to date is the most modern and best modified bitumen plant on the south pacific coast.
In 2018, investments in our quality laboratory marks the start for the creation of the R&D area. In there we perform product development, material analysis and insights for sustainable solutions. At the same time, Imptek's operations in Colombia begin.
In 2019 we are including acrylic waterproofing products and asphalt liquids to the portafolio.
In 2021, our corporate culture allowed us to be recognized as a Great Place to Work company.
Our commitment to sustainability and environmental protection lead us to install 1,000 solar panels on our industrial plant by 2021. With it, we generate and harness photovoltaic energy, which supplies 92% of the internal energy in our plant.
In 2023 we repowered our industrial asphaltic membrane line for the production of self-adhesive asphalt membranes under the ULTRA portfolio. In the same year we reached a new milestone by being accredited with the UL certification which highlights our products for their safety.
As of 2024 Imptek becomes part of the Saint-Gobain group, one of the leading manufacturers in the global construction industry; increasing our reach and international impact.
In 2025, Fazband—the first double-sided asphalt tape—gets a new look and offers a multipurpose solution to highlight its features: insulation, waterproofing, and fastening, meeting the new needs of both light-frame and traditional construction.
In 2026, Casa Saint-Gobain Imptek opened its doors in Guayaquil, becoming the first venue in Ecuador to bring together all of Saint-Gobain’s brands and solutions available in the country. Conceived as a “living laboratory,” it brings innovation, knowledge, and technical expertise to construction professionals.

Recognition of products that comply with safety and quality standards in the United States and Canada issued by Underwriters Laboratories, which makes it highly competitive for its free circulation in international markets.
INEN
The INEN Quality Seal is an official document that ratifies that the product or products are manufactured under the fulfillment of processes and quality standards of reference. Our products with INEN Quality Seal are: Imperpol, asfalum, super k, asphalt emulsion and imperglass.
ISO 9001:2015
Certification that provides reference guidelines for a Quality Management System (QMS) that allows industries to manage, control and continuously improve processes to achieve consistent and effective performance and service.
ISO 17025*
