Thermal Insulation: Fundamental for Saving Energy in Buildings
October 16, 2024Pavement recycling has positioned itself as one of the most sustainable and efficient techniques for road maintenance and rehabilitation. Instead of relying exclusively on new materials, this process allows the reuse of existing resources, which not only contributes to waste reduction, but also optimizes costs and reduces the environmental impact of infrastructure projects.
According to the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works, approximately 50% of the state road network is currently damaged, with critical problems such as sinkholes and loss of bridges. In addition, it is estimated that around 80 % of the roads require some type of intervention to reinforce their structure and guarantee their safety. In view of this situation, pavement recycling is a key alternative to improve the quality of roads in an efficient and sustainable manner.
The process begins with a detailed assessment of the road conditions. After identifying deteriorated areas, the top layer of pavement is removed, crushed and processed for reuse. This recycled material, when combined with aggregates and enriched with additives and polymers, is transformed into a composition that meets the highest standards of strength and durability, allowing the creation of a new pavement layer.
Pedro Paladines, Imptek's Road Manager, mentions that "One of the most commonly used techniques is cold recycling, which is carried out directly at the construction site. This process stands out for its rapid application and for minimizing interruptions to traffic, which is especially advantageous in areas with high traffic volume. The composition used, consisting of sand, gravel and asphalt emulsion enriched with additives and polymers, ensures the durability of the new surface, while significantly reducing the carbon footprint. One of the most effective products in this process is Bitumix."
Companies such as Imptek have led the development of innovative solutions that maximize the benefits of these recycling techniques, contributing to the goal of a more efficient and environmentally friendly road infrastructure.
With these advances, the country is taking a step forward in the construction of a more sustainable road network, prepared to face future challenges in a responsible and efficient manner.
