- The construction industry is the fifth most important sector of the Ecuadorian economy.
- Labor Day commemoration highlights the contribution of the construction sector to the national economy
Construction is one of the most important sectors in the country; therefore, it is important to recognize the great contribution that construction workers make to the dynamization of the national economy and their contribution to the generation of new jobs.
According to data from the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE) for this 2023 a recovery of the construction sector is projected with a positive increase in the GDP growth rate of 3.5% and USD 11,331 million; however, the effects of the pandemic are still being felt. According to ECB figures, despite the fact that the construction industry's share in the national GDP will remain at 6.1% from 2022 to 2023, this industry continues to be the fifth most important sector of the Ecuadorian economy.
Among the companies contributing to this result is Imptek, a 100% domestically owned company with 44 years of experience in the construction and waterproofing sector that generates more than 100 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs. According to figures for the first four months of 2023, the company saw an 11% increase in sales compared to the previous year.
As part of the company's philosophy, it is considered important to include investment and training projects that support each employee and guarantee a fair working environment and working conditions; this allows for business growth and also the generation of more employment and production to collaborate with the reactivation of the industry and the country.
In addition, the work environment, working conditions and benefits offered by companies are of vital importance for the growth and development of the industry. A clear example is Imptek, which for the second time and since 2021, has been recognized as a Great Place to Work company. Another reason why the company was rated with high values is gender equity, where 26% of women are in management and middle management positions.
Construction is a fundamental pillar in Ecuador's economy, where the industry's main players are working hard to create an encouraging scenario and achieve personal, family and business well-being and growth.
